The Venturi winery was founded in 1971 by Venturi Filiberto, when he decided to plant vines on a sun-drenched hill in Castelleone di Suasa, 15 kilometers from the Marche’s Adriatic coast, in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi viticultural zone.
Originally, Filiberto aimed to produce wine as a hobby, mostly for himself and for his friends. Little did he know that his son Roberto, who landed at the winery in 2008, would turn this past time into a profession. Not only that, Roberto’s meticulous approach in the vineyard as well as in the cellar would make him the recipient of praises and accolades from wine critics. Roberto is a strong advocate for the Verdicchio grape, believing in the great potential of this indigenous varietal, especially when matched to the appropriate terroir and viticultural practices.
The estate stretches over 8 hectares of rolling hills with south-east exposure, at the base of the Central Apennines at an average altitude between 820 and 1,250 feet above sea level where, Verdicchio, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Aleatico thrive. This area benefits from the interplay between the Adriatic Sea to the east, where the conditions are markedly Mediterranean, and the elevation of the Apennines chain to the west, with a more continental climate. The elevation of the mountain, which can exceed 6,500 feet, creates a rain shadow effect, providing protection from strong westerly winds and bad weather. It is an ideal place for the production of mineral-tinged dry white wines, thanks to its calcareous, clay, and limestone-rich soils and a relatively dry climate.
Roberto’s approach to farming and winemaking is as natural as possible. He refuses to use any chemical products, relying instead on an assiduous presence in the vineyard and the implementation of organic practices in each step of his work.
